The interior has been completely revamped with 3 remarkable abstract murals by artist Todd Krasovetz that compliments both of modern and vintage interior design styles. One of the murals titled “Women and A Martini Glass”  (below)elegantly caresses the staircase wall going up to the main restaurant Le Bec Fin. The other scene here ( to the right of the bar ) is titled “Dark Wave” which, by the use of edgy dark, rich black and blue color are balanced by white, yellow and reds. The perfect combination of the color creates depth, harmony and movement within the mural.

The third mural ( to the left of the bar ) is titled “Woman and A Rose” (above) which depicts an abstracted woman with her eyes closed kissing and caressing a red rose. The style in which the artwork is produced is extremely spontaneous and natural. The way the oil paint is applied creates magnificent textures that lead the viewer’s eyes throughout the art. “MDC Wallcoverings of Chicago was also important in making this project a success” Krasovetz says.

“The dangerous beauty of the design combined with the warmth of the lighting will make Tryst one of the best kept secrets in Philadelphia,” said Design Director Susan Davidson of DAS Architects.

German by birth, Todd Krasovetz is internationally known for his published contemporary realist painting, soft abstractions forge new artistic territories evoking the power, tempo and tonal complexity of musical composition. Born of a spontaneous process very close to Pollock’s ‘action painting’ which Krasovetz describes as ‘event painting,’ these bold and expressive large scale works on   canvas trace back through the heroic lineages of Sargent, Matisse and Van Gogh.

Working both vertical and  horizontal, Krasovetz’s process involves accelerating the drying time of the oil paint which he splashes freely into the artistic ether. Combination’s of warm and cool hues emit contrasting notes that emerge as translucent and metallic layers resembling the ebb and flow of water. Ornate patterns and undisclosed narrative qualities embellish the plane. As a whole the portraits evoke a sense of fragmentation, memory and emotionality, catalyzing around the evocative feminine mystique, which they take as their central theme.

Michelle Calvert, head designer on the project with DAS Architects, sought various influences when designing Tryst. “My travels to France and visits to local businesses gave me the inspiration to bring the look and feel and incorporate a “french genre and style” into the project. Artist Todd Krasovetz’ murals were a perfect fit. His work mimicked the style and sophistication that complimented Tryst & Le Bec Fin.

Why Tryst is so Special:

Executive Chef Elmi’s modern French fare features innovative and contemporary small plates, along with classic Le Bec Fin dishes always available upon request. The dynamic chef team has crafted a mouthwatering selection including truffle and foie gras arancini, jumbo lump crab cocktail with mustard and malt vinegar alongside Le Bec’s signature caviar. Tryst’s sophisticated libation menu features signature cocktails, such as the Bustier (Gin, Cocchi Americano, St. Germain, Rhubarb Bitters) and Peach Smash (Whiskey, Lemon Juice, Fresh Muddled Peaches, Mint) along with an extensive wine list—with a rotating by-the-glass program—and traditional absinthe service.

“We felt Philadelphia had an intense need for a casual sophisticated hotspot with unparalleled food and creative mixology, and Tryst’s distinct atmosphere—from design to cuisine—will serve as the perfect complement to the city’s nightlife renaissance,” said Elmi.

Press Release:  9/17/2011

For Immediate Release: Le Bec Fin/ Tyrst : Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia.

Interview Conducted by: Artist Todd Krasovetz for the GM of Le Bec Fin : Sylvain Brians.

Intro: TKrasovetz: (speaking to Sylvain) “I wanted to be candid and am excited about working with you and this project is a true highlight of the year. My wife, Kourtney Krasovetz is from the east coast and told me about the prestigious representation of Le Bec Fin and the clientele coming in and the location in Rittenhouse Square.”

Question TKrasovetz:Could you please provide me with brief background about yourself and how you became the GM of le Bec Fin? Answer Sylvain “I was brought on about nine months ago. The opportunity presented itself and I had known Chef Perrier for about 10 years after living close to his restaurant, Georges, in Wayne, PA. I was looking for a new adventure and Le Bec Fin was looking for a new face and provided me with a wonderful opportunity to grow and be challenged.”

Question TKrasovetz:When DAS Interiors came to you, what type of creative control did you have on the design project?” Answer Sylvain:We were very open. DAS Architects came to us with the initial concept as we were looking for something new, modern and unique. The only direction the chef gave to them was to make sure the remodeling was “sexy”. We are thrilled because that is exactly the product we received.”

Question TKrasovetz: “How are your customers/clients reacting to the artwork? Answer Sylvain: The majority of our customers are thrilled with the remodeling and have taken to the new murals as well as the overall decor.  It is very different compared to the previous décor. Most guests love it; some are still nostalgic about the old bar but it is an adjustment.”

Question TKrasovetz: “Which of the 3 murals installed is your personal favorite and best reflects the style and sophistication of Le Bec Fin and its clientele? Answer Sylvain: I love the lady going down the staircase—it is very bright and refreshing. The Woman and a Martini is what I recall the name being.”

I want to thank yourself, Le Bec fin and DAS Interiors for  your time Sylvain and thanks again for the wonderful opportunity! End-

Please contact Todd Krasovetz if you have any questions about the artwork or this interview at 1-619-490-9985 email at krasovetztodd@sbcglobal.net
